2027 Emerges as Likely Target for GTA 6's Online Mode, According to Twitch's Boss

Rockstar still calls GTA 6 a "single-player experience," but Twitch's own CEO just put a year on when the inevitable online mode might actually arrive -- and it's further out than many fans hoped.
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg (via IGN) that he expects GTA 6's multiplayer component to launch sometime in 2027, more than a year after the single-player game itself. Clancy said Twitch has spent "a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans," framing his comment as more than idle speculation from a bystander -- Twitch has a direct commercial stake in knowing when the next wave of GTA content is coming.
Clancy's interest isn't purely academic. He noted Twitch expects a viewership bump when GTA 6 launches this November as creators flock to the game, but he theorized an "even bigger" surge could come in 2027 once multiplayer arrives, presumably because a live online mode tends to generate ongoing, replayable streaming content in a way a story-driven single-player campaign doesn't.
It's worth remembering that Rockstar has not made any official statement about multiplayer plans for GTA 6 at all. Everything here comes from Clancy's own comments, not a Rockstar announcement, so the 2027 window should be treated as an informed outsider's estimate rather than a confirmed date.
For context, GTA 5 launched on September 17, 2013, with GTA Online following just a few weeks later. If Clancy's timeline holds, GTA 6 would see a dramatically longer gap between its single-player release this November and any online counterpart -- more than a year, rather than mere weeks. That's a notable shift in Rockstar's usual playbook and lines up with other reporting suggesting the studio may be treating GTA 6 and its eventual online mode as more separated products this time around.
That gap also matters because of just how enormous GTA Online has become as a revenue engine, reportedly pulling in years of steady microtransaction income and cultivating an extremely loyal player base. A longer runway before a new online mode could give Rockstar more time to test infrastructure and avoid the technical stumbles GTA Online faced at launch, but it also raises the practical question -- one other reports have already started digging into -- of how smoothly (or not) millions of existing GTA Online players might eventually migrate to whatever comes next. For now, fans should treat 2027 as a plausible marker on the horizon, not a locked-in release date.
