Remedy's Control Resonant has officially gone gold, but only digital players will get it on September 24 -- physical copies are now delayed to October 15.
Remedy Entertainment confirmed via Bluesky that Control Resonant has "gone gold," meaning the game's main development is finished and it's on track for release. However, the studio also revealed a staggered rollout: digital versions will launch as planned on September 24, while physical disc copies won't arrive until October 15, according to GameSpot.
That gap leaves fans hoping to play as Dylan Faden, the protagonist and sibling of the original Control's Jesse Faden, with a choice to make. Those willing to go digital can even get a head start -- PS5 players who preorder the $70 digital deluxe edition reportedly get two days of early access, ahead of the $60 standard edition's release.
GameSpot notes that physical media has become an increasingly touchy subject in gaming circles, especially after Sony announced last month that it will end disc production in 2028, effectively signaling that the next PlayStation console won't include a disc drive at all. Grand Theft Auto VI is following a similar path, skipping discs entirely even for its boxed edition.
As for Control Resonant itself, the sequel drops the parry mechanic found in the first game, pushing players toward offensive playstyles instead, and reportedly explores themes of trauma and redemption through Dylan's story. The game is set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
