An 800-euro payday for eight hours of Vice City sounds like easy money, but the catch is you have to out-write every other applicant just to get picked.

Virgin Media has launched a promotional contest, limited to residents of Ireland, that pays one winner to play GTA 6. According to GameSpot, entrants must submit a 100-200 word explanation on the company's contest site detailing why they deserve to get paid to play the game. Virgin Media will then pick a winner at random from the pool of qualifying entries rather than judging on writing quality alone.

If selected, the winner doesn't need to own the game already -- Virgin Media says it will buy a copy for them. The catch is the chosen format: the $100 Ultimate Edition, which only runs on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, so applicants without current-gen hardware would need to acquire a console to participate. The winner then has to play for eight hours, which they can split up across the week however they like, and post a review to Instagram or TikTok tagging Virgin Media and disclosing the post as a paid ad.

The pay rate works out to €100 per hour, or roughly $111 USD, totaling €800 ($891 USD) for the full eight-hour commitment. Applications close November 15, and Virgin Media says it will notify the winner within seven days of closing, putting the announcement right around GTA 6's November 19 launch window for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The timing lines up neatly with the broader wave of brand marketing tie-ins that have surrounded GTA 6 in its final weeks before launch, from giveaway promotions to real-world branding stunts tied to the game's Miami-inspired setting. Unlike some of those campaigns, this one isn't selling a themed product or experience -- it's essentially outsourcing an influencer-style review in exchange for guaranteed footage of someone playing the game at launch, which has obvious value to a telecom company trying to ride the hype cycle of one of the year's biggest releases.

Worth noting for anyone tempted to apply: this is a single-winner, random-draw contest restricted to Ireland, so the odds are inherently long regardless of how compelling an applicant's pitch is. It's a fun curiosity amid the mountain of GTA 6 launch coverage, but it's a sweepstakes with one spot, not a job listing.
