GameSpot reports Take-Two's market cap has shed billions this week as GTA 6 leaks spread, with shares sliding from around $245 to roughly $236.
According to GameSpot, Take-Two Interactive's stock has taken a hit this week as alleged GTA 6 gameplay footage continues to leak ahead of the game's official August 27 trailer debut on Netflix. The publisher's share price opened the week near $245 and has since dropped to about $236, translating into billions of dollars lost in total market value.
GameSpot notes that stock prices react to news flow, and the sheer volume of headlines generated by the leaks this week -- including commentary that reportedly drew jokes from the US government -- could be weighing on investor sentiment. The outlet also points to other potential factors, such as CEO Strauss Zelnick recently selling $10 million worth of shares, and Take-Two's latest earnings report showing a quarterly loss of more than $30 million alongside falling net bookings.
Not all the recent stock news is negative, per the report: the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan disclosed a purchase of nearly 150,000 Take-Two shares worth over $37 million. GameSpot adds that despite this week's dip, Take-Two shares are up 3.3% over the past year and roughly 50% over the past five years, even though the stock remains down more than 6% for 2026 so far.
The article also draws a contrast with GTA 6's previous leak incident in September 2022, when Zelnick called the situation "frustrating and upsetting" but the leak had no measurable effect on the company's finances. GTA 6 remains on track for a November 19 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with GameSpot reiterating that reported Switch 2 testing shouldn't raise fan expectations for that platform.
