Court filings show Take-Two has set a hard deadline for Microsoft to hand over account data tied to the GTA 6 leaker known as CyberLeek, with Discord facing a similar demand.
According to GameSpot, Take-Two has filed subpoenas against both Microsoft and Discord as part of its investigation into this week's wave of alleged Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay leaks. The filing, made in the South District Court of New York, seeks to "obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers" connected to the leaked footage, per a Kotaku report cited by GameSpot.
Notably, the subpoena reportedly refers to the leaked material as "copyrighted material," language that would seem to support the leak's legitimacy rather than it being an elaborate hoax. The person behind the leaks, who goes by CyberLeek online, has also been advertising a cryptocurrency alongside the gameplay clips, GameSpot notes.
Per the report, the subpoena sets a tight window, giving Microsoft only until September 4 to turn over any information it holds on the leaker, including data on Discord users active in specific servers tied to the leaks. The requested information reportedly spans account IDs, emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, and linked accounts such as Xbox and Google profiles.
The timing adds pressure on Take-Two, as the leaks emerged just days before Rockstar's planned "Extended Look" at GTA 6, set to air August 27 exclusively on Netflix. GameSpot says it has reached out to Rockstar for comment and will update its story with any response. Grand Theft Auto 6 remains on track to launch November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
