Strauss Zelnick told investors on an earnings call that GTA 6 preorder demand is unlike anything Take-Two or the industry has seen before, while cautioning that preorders don't guarantee final sales.
According to GameSpot, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the massive preorder response to GTA 6 during a recent company earnings call. Zelnick stated, "No one's ever seen anything like this before at Take-Two, or in the industry," referring to the wave of preorders since they opened in late June.
Despite the enthusiasm, Zelnick was careful to temper expectations, noting that strong preorder figures don't necessarily translate into final sales. "To be clear, we haven't sold one unit yet. You can cancel a preorder," he said, according to the report. He also declined to give specific sales projections, instead describing the company's outlook as "cautiously optimistic" while acknowledging excitement internally.
Zelnick reportedly reiterated just how unusual the preorder surge has been, calling it "unprecedented and astonishing" and expressing gratitude for the response. Still, he stopped short of framing it as a guarantee of success, saying the company would wait to see how things play out once the game actually launches.
The comments come as Take-Two has reaffirmed that GTA 6 remains on track for its November 19 release date, with no further delays reported. The publisher has also continued to defend the game's $80 price point, describing it as "phenomenal value" for players.
