Statement Confirms Netflix Showcase as Rockstar's Answer to Leak Wave

After weeks of silence while gameplay footage and spoilers spread online, Rockstar finally addressed the leaks directly -- and pointed fans toward a Netflix event just one day away.
Rockstar Games issued its first official statement on the ongoing GTA 6 leak situation on August 26, calling the experience "heartbreaking for our team," according to GameSpot. The company acknowledged that seeing gameplay footage leak this way was never how it intended for fans to first experience the game, following a wave of leaked videos and details that began earlier this month.
Unlike the massive 2022 leak, where Rockstar and Take-Two identified the person responsible, no culprit has been named in this latest incident, per the report. Rockstar's statement did not offer new details on any investigation, focusing instead on addressing fans directly.
Notably, Rockstar tied the statement to an upcoming Netflix event scheduled for August 27 at 3 PM ET, where the studio will show off GTA 6, with the video set to hit YouTube later that same day. Rockstar said assembling the footage "has taken longer than we wanted," but added that "we know we need to exceed your expectations."
The company also acknowledged that spoilers from the leaks may affect how some players experience the game, while asking fans to hold out until the November 19 launch to play it themselves. Rockstar thanked the community for messages of support over the past week, saying the reaction "meant more to this team than you can imagine."
GTA 6 remains set to launch November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pricing at $80 for the base game and $100 for a premium edition. As GameSpot notes, questions remain about how GTA Online might evolve alongside the primarily single-player release.
