PC players have grown used to waiting the better part of a year or more for Rockstar's biggest games to arrive on their platform. A new report suggests GTA 6 could break that pattern in dramatic fashion.

According to GameSpot, a new report from GamesBeat citing unnamed industry sources claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive on PC within the first three months of 2027 -- just a few months after its November console launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not made any official statement about a PC version, and the game's current listed platforms remain limited to consoles only.

If accurate, this timeline would be a sharp break from Rockstar's historical pattern. GTA 5 didn't reach PC until roughly 18 months after its PS3 and Xbox 360 debut, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took about 11 months to make the jump from consoles to PC. A gap of just a few months would be unprecedented for a Rockstar open-world release of this scale.

The report also touches on why Rockstar tends to hold PC versions back in the first place. Former Rockstar producer John Ricchio has theorized that building for console hardware constraints first, then scaling up for PC later, is simply easier than designing for powerful PC hardware and then trying to cram the game down into console limitations. That logic lines up with comments from Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick, who has previously flagged PC as an increasingly important platform for the publisher given how much its PC sales have grown.

For fans tracking the PC question, this adds another data point to a story that's been building for a while. Take-Two's own shareholder meeting comments already fueled speculation about a PC port, and Xbox recently had to walk back reports that it held exclusive cloud-streaming rights to GTA 6, confirming the game won't be streamed to PC via Xbox Cloud Gaming. Put together, none of this is official confirmation that PC players will be playing GTA 6 by spring 2027, but it does suggest the PC version is being treated as a near-term priority rather than an afterthought years down the line.

Worth remembering: this is still a report built on unnamed sources, not a Rockstar announcement. Given how far in advance PC specs, storage demands, and modding considerations typically get discussed once a port is confirmed, GTA 6 PC hopefuls should watch for any official word from Rockstar or Take-Two before treating an early-2027 date as locked in.
