Netflix Reveal Set to Proceed Despite Unresolved Leak Investigation, Bloomberg Says

A new Bloomberg report, cited by GameSpot, offers a look at how Rockstar is handling the fallout from this week's GTA 6 gameplay leaks internally. According to the report, the studio has not identified who was responsible for the breach, nor determined exactly how the leaked material got out in the first place.

Despite that, Bloomberg reported that a top Rockstar executive circulated an internal memo this week condemning the leaker and reassuring staff that the incident wouldn't overshadow the team's work on the game. The report also indicates Rockstar has no intention of adjusting its marketing plans because of the leak, including the previously scheduled reveal event on Netflix on August 27.

That's notable given Rockstar's history: when GTA 6's first trailer leaked back in December 2023, the studio responded by pushing the official trailer out ahead of schedule rather than sticking to its original timeline. This time, at least according to the current reporting, no such shift appears to be in the works.

The situation echoes, in some ways, the massive 2022 GTA 6 leak, after which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick called the episode "frustrating and upsetting" but noted it had no measurable financial impact. This week's leaks have coincided with Take-Two shedding more than $2 billion in market value, though GameSpot's source notes it's unclear how much, if any, of that drop is directly tied to the leak itself.

Separately, it has emerged that Take-Two has subpoenaed both Microsoft and Discord as part of its effort to identify whoever is behind the leak campaign. GTA 6 remains on track for its November 19 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
