Subpoena Paperwork Hasn't Reached Discord, Company Says Amid Data-Scope Concerns

Take-Two wants to unmask the GTA 6 leaker, but Discord says the legal paperwork hasn't actually landed on its desk -- and some users fear just how much data the request could cover.

According to Kotaku, Discord has stated that it has not yet been formally served with a subpoena connected to the ongoing effort to identify the source behind the GTA 6 leaks, despite reports that legal action targeting the platform was filed.

The company reportedly said it would need to review any subpoena for "validity and scope" before deciding how to respond, once it is actually served. That language suggests Discord isn't committing to simply handing over information the moment paperwork arrives.

Kotaku notes that some users are uneasy about how broad Take-Two's data request might turn out to be, raising questions about whether an investigation aimed at a single leaker could sweep up unrelated user information in the process.

The situation follows earlier reporting that federal subpoenas had been filed against both Microsoft and Discord as part of the push to unmask the person or people behind the leaked GTA 6 footage. As of now, though, it appears at least one of those companies is still waiting on formal service before taking any next steps.
