Twelve Trinkets, No Cartridge: Rockstar's $400 Vice City Swag Box Breaks Down

Rockstar wants $400 for a box of Vice City memorabilia -- and the actual game isn't in it.
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed The Goodtime State: Vice City Collection, a $400 collector's edition that, notably, does not include a copy of GTA 6 itself. According to GameSpot, the set is themed around Leonida's in-universe hit show Macca the Gator and is now open for preorder, with a launch date of November 19 -- the same day GTA 6 releases.
The contents lean heavily into lifestyle merchandise rather than gaming hardware or in-game bonuses. Per GameSpot's rundown, buyers get a six-inch Macca the Gator figure with a stash compartment, matte black GTA 6 Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses, a New Era 9FORTY snapback with Vice City Leonida embellishments, a Macca the Gator magnetic mirror, a Vice City swizzle spoon, a razor blade keychain, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, an enamel pin set in a metal tin, stickers in a stash bag, and a double-sided souvenir poster of the Leonida map.
Reaction online has reportedly been harsh, with many questioning why a $400 "collector's edition" wouldn't bundle in the game people are actually buying it to celebrate. But as GameSpot points out, this isn't unprecedented -- Marathon, Diablo 4, and Borderlands 4 have all shipped standalone merch bundles separate from the base game. GameSpot also notes that despite the backlash, the set is expected to sell out quickly, and eBay listings have already appeared.
That last point tracks with a pattern this site has already covered around GTA 6's launch merchandise: themed DualSense controllers preordered earlier saw PlayStation's store buckle under demand before quickly turning into a scalper frenzy, with resellers marking up stock almost immediately. A $400 box built around a licensed in-game TV mascot, limited by nature, looks primed for the same treatment.
There's also a practical business angle worth flagging as our own read on the situation: by decoupling the collector's edition from the base game, Take-Two avoids the preorder-cancellation risk that traditionally comes with bundling merch and discs together. GameSpot notes that GTA 6 has already generated more than $400 million in preorder revenue alone, according to third-party estimates -- a number that keeps growing every time Rockstar rolls out a new piece of ancillary merchandise, from soundtrack vinyl to branded controllers to now, apparently, gator-themed shot glasses.
