Frame Rate Doubts Emerge After Digital Foundry Dissects Extended Look Footage
The Extended Look was meant to hype fans up for Leonida -- instead, it's sparked a debate about whether GTA 6 can even hit 60fps on the hardware most players will use.
According to IGN, technical analysts at Digital Foundry have poured cold water on hopes for a smooth 60 frames-per-second console experience with GTA 6, after digging into footage from the recently released Grand Theft Auto 6: Extended Look.
Per the outlet, the experts determined that the showcased footage was running at 30fps, and called the prospect of a 60fps console version "extremely unlikely" given the scope of what Rockstar is attempting to render.
IGN's report also notes that Digital Foundry didn't let PC players off the hook either, describing a stable 60fps experience as "genuinely challenging" even on high-end PC hardware, presumably due to the sheer density and scale of the world on display.
While Rockstar has not commented on frame rate targets for any platform, the Digital Foundry analysis referenced by IGN suggests that the ambition behind GTA 6's world may come with real performance trade-offs, at least at launch. Fans hoping for buttery-smooth 60fps gameplay may need to temper expectations as more technical details emerge closer to release.
